Safara School – Egypt / Uganda
Designing and Training for a Community School Program in Uganda
A consultancy project for Safara School in Uganda that included training volunteers working in community schools on a competency-based educational framework that leverages environmental resources and integrates values within learning content.
Project Context
The program was developed in response to Safara School’s need in Uganda for a learning model that strengthens students’ connection to their environment within an educational context that relies on available resources and faces challenges related to the disconnect between learning and everyday life.
The program was implemented for Safara Foundation through the design of an educational solution and the training of volunteers to apply it within the school environment.
Educational Approach
The program is based on an approach that connects learning to the environment and real-life contexts, where the surrounding environment becomes a primary source of learning, exploration, and experimentation.
The approach focuses on:
- Learning through direct interaction with the environment
- Transforming local resources into learning opportunities
- Building understanding connected to real life rather than abstract content
Project Objectives
The program aims to:
- Strengthen students’ connection to and understanding of their environment
- Develop exploration and critical thinking skills
- Build awareness of local resources and how to benefit from them
- Enable volunteers to deliver effective interactive learning experiences
Key Features of the Learning Solution
The program was designed as an interactive and productive learning experience based on:
- Environmental exploration and analysis activities
- Learning situations connected to daily life
- Inquiry- and observation-based learning
- Transforming learning into practical behaviors and applicable skill
Program Components
- Field activities for exploring the surrounding environment
- Practical tasks based on the use of local resources
- Collaborative activities that encourage teamwork and interaction
- Educational situations that connect concepts to real-life experiences
Target Audience
Students of Safara School in Uganda, along with the volunteers responsible for implementing the program within the learning environment.
Project Value
The project provides:
- A practical learning model suitable for low-resource environments
- A framework that transforms the environment into a living source of learning
- Learning experiences centered on understanding and experimentation
- The ability for institutions to create educational impact using available resources
The EducQuest Philosophy
This project reflects the philosophy of EducQuest in designing learning as a process deeply connected to context and reality. Learning begins with the environment, is built through inquiry, and evolves into meaningful experiences that help learners develop awareness and shape their relationship with the world around them.
